Norman was born at the family home in Brockhill Lane, Redditch on 7^th November 1915 and educated at Redditch High School.

From the time he could hold a pencil Norman was drawing on scraps of paper and at the age of sixteen went to Birmingham College of Art where he studied under many well know artists: Harold Holden, Michael Fletcher, W.F. Colley, Henry Sands and Bernard Fleetwood Walker, R.A.

Many of Norman’s early paintings reflected the disturbing influences of events such as the Spanish Civil War but following the end of WW2 Norman returned as a tutor to Birmingham College of Art. He also taught at Bourneville Art College of art and at Aston.

In 1953 Norman was offered a post at the Redditch School of Art and later appointed head of the art department until his retirement in 1979 when he took up painting full time.

Whilst teaching in Birmingham he worked on many murals including the new Birmingham Airport Hotel, Mitchell’s and Butlers Brewery and Barrows Stores in Corporation Street

Reader’s Digest; Leisure Painter and other art related publications. Work reproduced for the covers of Readers Digest; Christmas Cards by Medici and the Calendar reproduced and published in 1989 with this selection of Norman’s work. Norman also produced the illustrations for more than 40 books.
